THE ONE PERCENT
WPY Bible Reading Plan:
15 Minutes a day can change your life!
WayPoint Youth is on a mission: Be like Jesus by spending at least 15 minutes a day with Him. (That's about 1% of your day!)
Our vision is to see the lives of our youth changed by the formation of a daily reading habit that grounds them in prayer, scripture reading, and quiet time with the Lord.
Our vision is to see the lives of our youth changed by the formation of a daily reading habit that grounds them in prayer, scripture reading, and quiet time with the Lord.
Concept - 5-5-5:
Five minutes in prayer, Five minutes reading, Five minutes of quiet before God.
Prayer: We thank God for anything and everything we can think of, no matter how insignificant. Give him glory! After that, make requests: Ask for HIS will in your life, HIS Kingdom to come, HIS Word to ring true. Then, make personal requests.
Reading: All scripture is useful, but not all scripture makes sense without the proper instruction and context. The plan below is an excellent place to start! The Bible tells us the heart of God, from cover to cover. John tells us the story of Jesus from the beginning.
Quiet: This is the other end of prayer. We stop speaking, and we LISTEN. You might not "hear" anything at all. That's ok! But take thoughts captive, surrender before the Lord, and be still. You might be surprised what can happen!
NOTE: If 15 minutues feels intimidating, start smaller! Start as small as 2-2-2. Two minutes of each thing. It might feel like hardly anything, but it can establish the habit. For some deeper study on the topic of forming habits, CLICK HERE.
GOOD RULES TO FOLLOW:
1. Eliminate any and all distractions. No phone! Not even nearby. Put it in another room. "What if i like to listen to music?" That can be a huge help, but if it requires your phone, it might do more distracting than helping. Be concious of this! If you can, find a quiet environment where you are sure you will not be interupted.
2. Stick to your times. Don't "feast or famine". The goal is a consistent, daily habit. Miss a day? Get back in the saddle, and keep going! Plus, sticking to short read times when you start will help to establish the habit.
3. Tell a parent about your goal! We often find that a parent would love to help you accomplish this goal.
4. Ask youth leaders for accountability and reminders. They'll help you!
